Congressman Robert Pittenger represented the Charlotte, North Carolina area in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013-2019, with a focus on national security, foreign investment reform, pro-growth tax reform, and religious freedom. He served as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, and as Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Terrorism and Illicit Finance.
Congressman Pittenger helped lead a bipartisan reform of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), the only U.S. government agency tasked with identifying foreign investments with the potential to threaten national security. The Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA), which Congressman Pittenger co-authored with Senator John Cornyn of Texas, cracked down on malicious foreign investments targeting national security technology. FIRRMA was signed into law by President Trump in 2018. Congressman Pittenger is an advocate for increased global cooperation in the fight against radical Islamic terrorism, and received bipartisan recognition from his colleagues in Congress for elevating the issue of “terrorism financing” as a strategic front in the war on terror.
As both a private citizen and government official, Congressman Pittenger has developed relationships with hundreds of world leaders and security experts. The centerpiece of his work has been his organization of the annual Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum (PI-SF), which has convened 26 times around the world since 2014. The PI-SF brings together more than 2,600 parliamentary leaders and other senior officials and subject matter experts from countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America to discuss the most pressing geopolitical and security topics of our time. PI-SF fora are hosted by the speakers and leaders of international parliamentary bodies, who provide the letters of invitation to the PI-SF list of over 35,000 Members of Parliament from 160 countries. Topics discussed include counterterror finance, cyber security, data sharing, digital currencies, 5G, AI, quantum computing, human trafficking, strategic minerals, supply chain security, energy security, religious freedom, illicit trade, adversarial foreign investments, and transnational criminal issues.
Born and raised in Texas, Robert was the youngest of four children. Upon graduating from the University of Texas, Congressman Pittenger worked for 10 years as Assistant to the President of Campus Crusade for Christ, Dr. Bill Bright, helping to bring the work of the organization to over 170 countries.
